Representatives of bank workers are to meet Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and the Minister for Finance Michael Nooonan over the coming days to discuss the future of the banking industry.

It follows AIB's announcement that it will be cutting 2,000 jobs.

It is also unclear what effect restructuring plans will have on staff of Irish Life & Permanent and the EBS.

At its conference today, the Irish Bank Officials' Association said unless redundancies were voluntary, its members would not cooperate with plans to restructure the banks.
