Egypt's former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons will appear before a Cairo court next Tuesday for questioning, Egyptian state television has said.
Earlier, Mr Mubarak was placed in detention, which is to last for 15 days, it was announced.
The announcement was made by state prosecutors after it was reported that his two sons had also been detained.
The detentions were ordered as part of an inquiry into the use of force against demonstrators during the uprising in January and February.
The ousted president went into intensive care in Sharm el-Sheikh, shortly after suffering a heart attack during questioning by prosecutors yesterday, state media reported.
Mr Mubarak stepped down on 11 February after millions of Egyptians took to the streets to demand he end his 30-year rule.
Since then he has been in internal exile in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he spent more and more time during his last years in power.
The public prosecutor had summoned Mr Mubarak on Sunday as part of investigations into the killing of protestors and the embezzlement of public funds.
In his first public comments since stepping down, broadcast by Al Arabiya on Sunday, Mr Mubarak denied wrongdoing.
The former president suffered from health problems in recent years and went to Germany for gall bladder surgery in March 2010.
