Prince Albert II of Monaco and his fiancée Charlene Wittstock have visited the Marine Institute in Co Galway on the last day of a three-day State visit.

The visit was organised at the request of the prince who has a keen interest in marine environmental awareness.

This afternoon, the prince also visited the ancestral home of his late mother Princess Grace in Newport, Co Mayo.

Yesterday, Prince Albert announced the establishment of The Princess Grace Research Fellowship at Trinity.

The post-doctoral research fellowship is for one year and has been privately funded. It will continue on a bi-annual basis in different subject areas.

Last night, Prince Albert and Ms Wittstock hosted a reception at Farmleigh to mark the last evening of their State visit to Ireland.
