Global technology firm Avaya is to expand its operations in Galway with the creation of 75 jobs.

The positions are across a range of areas including engineering, finance, IT and administrative support.

The firm launched its Customer Experience Centre in Mervue this morning.

Recruitment has already begun at the research and development facility with the 75 jobs to be filled by the end of 2011.

Avaya is a multinational company specialising in communications systems development with a workforce of 20,000 worldwide.

There are 275 people currently employed at its bases in Sandyford in Dublin and Mervue.

IDA Chief Executive Barry O'Leary said today's announcement demonstrated to the international community that Ireland was continuing to attract investment from key players in the technology industry.

Welcoming the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Richard Bruton said:'Today represents an innovation in collaborative technology development.

'If we are to protect and create jobs, we must get costs down, get credit lines flowing and grow and encourage high-tech companies.'
