Some surgical operations have been cancelled in Cavan General Hospital for the rest of the week due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.
The Health Service Executive has confirmed this evening that elective in-patient surgery has been cancelled although day cases and children's procedures will continue as normal.
This follows the imposition of visitor restrictions as a result of the outbreak of Norovirus, more commonly known as the winter vomiting bug.
The outbreak is currently affecting four general wards and restrictions have now been put in place to try and limit its spread.
Visiting in the four wards is restricted to a maximum of two visitors per patient per day during the visiting times of 6.30pm-8.30pm Monday to Friday.
Children are not allowed visit at any time.
Any requirement to visit very ill patients outside of the visiting times have to be agreed with staff in advance.
