Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has issued a list of ten candidates he wants his party councillors to support in the Seanad election.
The list excludes senators he has asked not to go for re-election.
However, Fianna Fáil Senator Ned O'Sullivan said he is not giving up hope of getting elected, despite not being included on the list.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher, who was involved in the consultation process, said the selection marked the starting phase of a renewal process.
