The Dinn Rí Group based in Carlow, is to double employment this year to 260 following its purchase of a number of venues in Waterford.

The pub and leisure group is investing in four venues at John Street in Waterford city.

Late last year the Dinn Rí Group purchased the four premises which were formerly part of the Tweedy Group.

Around 100 employees were made redundant after the Tweedy premises closed.

The venues will be reopened under Dinn Rí management.

Approximately 50 people were employed in renovating the venues over the past few months and all four will be fully operational again soon.

The company says 130 staff will be employed to run the four venues, one of which is already open and another is opening this week.

Dinn Rí company director Sean McLoughlin has said they are delighted to be able to create so many jobs in the Waterford area at such a difficult time with what they are describing as a significant investment.
