Two Waterstone's branches are to close in Dublin this Sunday with the loss of 46 jobs.
A spokeswoman said the company would try to redeploy people where possible but confirmed that job losses were expected.
Staff were informed today of the closures on Dawson Street and in the Jervis Centre which comes after a trading statement from the company on 5 January which warned of store closures.
The spokeswoman for the company said the Waterstone's outlets in Cork and in Drogheda are unaffected by the move.
A further nine stores will close in Britain.
