An elderly sister and brother have died in an early morning house fire in Co Cork.

Gardaí have named the victims as 88-year-old Michael Coleman and his sister Nora, who was 85.

The blaze was reported at the house at Rathcoursey - on the road between Whitegate and Midleton - at 5.15am.

The pair were pronounced dead at the scene before their bodies were removed to Cork University Hospital where post mortems will take place later today.

Gardaí believe the fire started accidentally, but the house has been sealed off and a technical examination will get under way later.
