Aer Lingus and Aer Arann have announced plans for a new route from Shannon to Edinburgh as part of the franchise agreement between the two airlines.

From 27 March, Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Aer Arann, will provide flights to Shannon from Edinburgh five days a week.

Aer Arann already operates services from Shannon to Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow on behalf of Aer Lingus Regional.

Aer Lingus Regional is also to increase the number of flights from Shannon for its summer schedule, which also begins on 27 March.

Among the changes are additional flights to Manchester on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Aer Arann Chief Executive Paul Schutz has said the company has turned a huge corner since it was put in examinership last year and is now working to get back to sustained profitability.
