Thousands of documents, photographs and recorded telephone conversations of US President John F Kennedy are going online for the first time.

The digital archive of the 35th American president is being launched by the John F Kennedy Library and Museum in Boston.

Historians and the general public will have online access to the archive instead of having to travel to Boston.

The archive includes around 1,200 telephone conversations made by President Kennedy during this spell in the White House from 1961 to 1963.

A spokesman for the library said he hoped the development would bring President Kennedy to a new generation.
