Some of the 110 workers at Superquinn in Naas have rejected an offer of re-location when the Co Kildare store closes next month.
Members of the Mandate trade union met this morning to discuss the loss of their jobs.
It follows yesterday's announcement by Superquinn that it was closing the supermarket early next month.
Superquinn said it would offer staff in Naas the opportunity to redeploy within the company, where possible, to minimise job losses.
It said the closure was caused by the expiry of its lease on the premises.
However, Mandate Assistant General Secretary Gerry Light said Superquinn needs to clarify its reasons for closing the store.
Mr Light said they would consider management's offer to try to redeploy staff to other Superquinn outlets.
However, he said this would not be easy as the nearest shops were Carlow, Portlaoise or Lucan.
On their way in to the meeting, workers said they were devastated by the news, particularly as it had come just after Christmas.
Several workers said they would not be able to switch to another shop as it was too far away and they may not be guaranteed the hours.
A Superquinn spokesperson said this morning they would meet unions on Tuesday next to discuss the redeployment process.
She also said the company had hoped to buy another premises in the town but were unable to agree a price.
