A 15-year-old girl has died after she was fatally injured sliding down a snow covered slope on a golf course in Cork City.

Three other teenagers were also injured in the accident, and one is understood to have a broken leg.

Gardaí say the four were using a wooden board to slide down slopes at Frankfield Golf Club, near Douglas in Cork City, when the board went out of control and collided with a tree at around 2.30pm.

All four, two girls and two brothers, were taken to Cork University Hospital where the 15-year-old girl died a short time later.

Two teenagers, a boy and a girl, are said to be in a serious condition. The other boy is described as being stable.

The area has been cordoned off and a Garda team is carrying out a forensic examination.
