The Rotunda Hospital has introduced visitor restrictions following an outbreak of what the hospital described as ‘a small number of cases of swine flu (H1N1 virus)' at the facility.
Visiting is restricted to the partner (or one nominated visitor) of expectant/new mothers and gynaecology inpatients and to the parents of infants in the Neonatal Unit.
No children should be brought into the hospital.
The hospital says it has been liaising closely with the Health Service Executive and the Health Protection Surveillance Centre to implement the recommendations from the Pandemic H1N1 Influenza Plan 2009.
In a statement issued this afternoon, the hospital says all of the infected women are being carefully monitored and are either recovering well or have already recovered.
No babies have been infected.
All outpatient clinics will continue as normal but elective gynaecology admissions are cancelled. The hospital will be in touch with patients to rearrange these appointments.
