Road users and pedestrians are being urged to take care when setting out as snow and ice melt away.

AA Roadwatch says that compacted snow and ice are still presenting a hazard on less used routes.

Restrictions on the public water supply in Dublin county and city will remain in place over the weekend.

Householders and businesses are being asked to curtail usage.

Despite the continuing thaw, Met Éireann says the week ahead will start cold but dry and with overnight frost.

Early indications suggest that particularly cold weather, about 4C below the seasonal average, could return towards the end of next week.
