Haiti election officials have said they will review presidential elections results.
The announcement came as new protests erupted after the ruling party's candidate ousted a leading favourite from a run-off vote.
The electoral commission 'has decided to immediately launch a rapid and exceptional process to verify at the counting center the tally sheets linked to the 2010 presidential elections,' it said in a statement.
'This mechanism will concern the three top candidates in the running,' it added.
New protests flared today, a day after armed clashes in several towns between rival political supporters left four people dead.
The violence came during demonstrations organised by supporters of popular singer Michel Martelly.
His supporters were left dismayed when Mr Martelly was beaten into third place by President René Préval's handpicked protege, Jude Célestin.
The electoral commission said former first lady Mirlande Manigat won 31% of the vote, Jude Celestin 22.5% and Michel Martelly 21.8%, in the 28 November presidential elections.
That would mean Manigat and Celestin will now face off on 16 January to succeed Mr Preval as the president.
