A 38-year-man has died in a house fire in Dublin.

The blaze broke out at the house on the North Circular Road shortly after 1.30am.

Three people were taken to the Mater Hospital, where the man was later pronounced dead.

A 42-year-old woman is in a critical condition with severe burns, while a 43-year-old man is believed to be suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

A number of residents who were temporarily evacuated have been allowed to return home.
