The Chairperson of the Green Party's National Executive Committee, Gary Fitzgerald, has resigned from the party.
The former local election candidate said he had made his decision due to what he described as the 'onerous terms of the IMF/EU bailout'.
He said the interest rate burdens the country with unsustainable debt repayments, prevents national recovery and he believes it makes a default inevitable.
Mr Fitzgerald said he had informed the Green Party General Secretary, Colm Ó Caomhánaigh, yesterday and had written a letter of resignation.
He said he would not be contesting the General Election.
