An ESB spokesman has said there is no free electricity given to employees or executives, but said there are discounts given to all staff.
He said they were limited discounts on limited consumption, an arrangement in place since 1981.
The spokesman was responding after Fine Gael’s Leo Varadkar inquired about the matter.
Speaking in the Dáil, Mr Varadkar said he had heard that senior employees and retired executives were in receipt of free electricity.
Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources Eamon Ryan said he had never heard of such a thing, but said it would not be appropriate if true.
