Aer Lingus pilots began a work-to-rule at midnight in a dispute over rosters.
However, they say their action, which includes refusing to work on days off, should not have any impact on passengers or services.
Aer Lingus described the action as outrageous, particularly at a time of economic uncertainty.
The airline said it does not anticipate immediate disruption to its flight schedule.
