Úna Butler and her late husband's family have said they are 'struggling to come to terms with the loss of John, Zoe and Ella'.

Ms Butler's two children and her husband died in Ballycotton, Co Cork, on Tuesday.

In a statement issued through her solicitor, Ms Butler and John Butler's family asked for privacy.

Mr Butler died when his car crashed into a tree and burst into flames on the bog road outside the Co Cork town.

Six-year-old Zoe and two-year-old Ella were found dead at their home nearby.

Ms Butler had left for work in Cork city earlier that morning and was notified of the deaths by gardaí.

In today's statement, they thanked everyone for their support and asked for people's prayers.

A special mass for Zoe and Ella will take place at the Church of the Star of the Sea in Ballycotton on Friday at 2.30pm.

Mr Butler's funeral mass will be held at St Colman's Cathedral in Cobh on Saturday.

The family have requested that the family home remain private.
