The Commission for Energy Regulation has confirmed that negotiations are underway on proposals to halve gas and electricity reconnection fees.
It follows the high number of debt-ridden consumers being disconnected.
The plan would mean that instead of consumers forking out the full cost of reconnection, energy suppliers such as the ESB and Bord Gáis would pay half.
This would cut €100 off the cost.
