A Fenian flag, dating from the 1860s, has sold at auction for €52,000.
It was bought by an anonymous private collector in Ireland.
It is the only one of its kind in private hands in Ireland.
Once owned by Willie Condon, a well known land league campaigner, the flag was waved proudly at demonstrations during Ireland’s land war.
The flag survived the Civil War by being hidden in a flour sack and today was the star lot at the auction of Irish historical memorabilia.
Other items, which went under the hammer, included Pádraig Pearse’s belt buckle and rifles once held by Irish volunteers.
