Irish man dies in New Zealand crash

An Irish man has been killed and a second Irish man injured in a road crash in New Zealand.

Police said the Landrover they were travelling in left the road at Poolburn, Central Otago, on the South Island yesterday afternoon.

The dead man was aged 23 and is believed to have been the driver of the jeep.

The second man, who is 21, suffered minor injuries.

Police said both had been working in the area where the crash happened.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the men's families.
