Dublin City Council is to expand the bike scheme across the capital.

Chair of Dublin City Council’s Transport Committee Cllr Andrew Montague said the expansion will see the scheme go from 450 to 5,000 bikes.

'The bike scheme has been so successful in its first year that the Council intends to increase the number of bikes more than ten-fold over the next five years', he said.

Cllr Montague said 'the first expansion will see bike stations in the Docklands area and around Heuston Station.

'Further expansions will mean that stations will be available from Clonskeagh in the southside to Whitehall on the northside.'
