The Irish Medical Council is investigating nine allegations of professional misconduct against a consultant radiologist at Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
The allegations against 40-year-old Dr John Hanson from Malahide, Co Dublin, arise from the treatment and subsequent death of a 23-year-old man in 2008.
Business graduate Mark Haran from Julianstown, Co Meath, died of brain damage in April 2008.
He had been admitted to the hospital suffering from headaches, nausea and vertigo twice in the space of ten days.
He was discharged the first time on the basis of an MRI scan.
The allegations of professional misconduct are against Dr Hanson are that he failed to diagnose hydrocephalus or intarcranial pressure, that he failed to communicate the extent of abnormalities in the MRI scan or to furnish a written report in an adequate time frame.
