Construction workers in N7 blockade

More than 50 construction workers blocked exits on the N7 at Moneygall, Roscrea and Borris-in-Ossory today in protest at not getting paid for the past six weeks.

The workers were hired by subcontractors, including KC Civil engineering and Cappawhite Plant Hire, to complete 36km of dual carriageway between Nenagh and Borris-in-Ossory.

The subcontractors say they cannot afford to pay the men because they in turn are owed money by the main contractor Bowen-Somague - an Irish Portuguese joint venture.

Bowen-Somague were awarded the contract by the National Roads Authority to build the section of the N7 in 2008.

The construction workers say they will continue their unofficial protest until they get paid.
