Two people have died and five others have been injured in a car crash in Co Cork.

The three-car crash happened at Carr's Hill on the main road between Cork city and Carrigaline at around 6.30am.

Two men in one of the cars involved were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other men in the same car were injured and are in a critical condition in hospital, while a woman in the same car escaped serious injury.

Two men who were driving the other two cars were taken to Cork University Hospital, where their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The road is closed and diversions are in place.

It is the second fatal road collision in the area in the past two days.

Yesterday, 21-year-old Timmy Hayes from Ash Road, Fota Rock,
Carrigtwohill, died in a road crash at Waterpark, Carrigaline, at around 5.30am.

Four other people in the car were injured and taken to hospital.
