Businessman Jim Kennedy, three former Fianna Fáil Councillors and a former Fine Gael TD have been sent forward for trial on corruption charges.

At Dublin District Court this morning, Mr Kennedy, former senator Don Lydon, former councillor Colm McGrath, independent councillor Tony Fox and former Fine Gael TD Liam Cosgrave were each served with a book of evidence.

Another former councillor has been remanded on bail for three weeks on similar charges.

The court was told that Sean Gilbride is in hospital. His lawyers requested a three-week remand.

Mr Kennedy faces 16 charges in relation to corrupt payments to politicians.

The others are charged with receiving corrupt payments in return for voting to rezone land at Carrickmines in the 1990s.

They were returned for trial to the present sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

All were remanded on continuing bail.
