Three people have died in separate road accidents around the country today.

One person died in a two-car collision on the Rosscarbery to Skibbereen Road in west Cork.

Three others were injured, at least one of them seriously, in the crash which happened just before 8pm tonight.

Elsewhere, a 19-year-old man died in a two-vehicle collision in Co Westmeath this afternoon.

The incident happened on the N51 Athboy to Delvin road at around 3.20pm.

The dead man was the sole occupant of one of the vehicles involved. He was brought to Mullingar General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

One of the passengers in the second car was also brought to hospital in Mullingar with non life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044-9384000, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800-666111 or any garda station.

Separately, a motorcyclist died in an early morning crash in Co Clare.

The 43-year-old man died when his motorbike collided with a car on the main Ennis to Tulla road at around 7.30am.

Gardaí are investigating.
