Shannon Aerospace - Employs 628 full-time staff

There are fears that redundancies are to be announced as part of a major restructuring at Shannon Aerospace maintenance company in Co Clare.

The company, a subsidiary of the global Lufthansa Technik AG based in Hamburg, employs 628 full-time staff in Shannon.

It also employs a number of part-time staff and interns on its training programme.

The base at Shannon specialises in the maintenance and overhaul of aircraft from Airbus, Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.

Staff have been called to a meeting at the Shannon base tomorrow morning.

The company is due to discuss a re-organisation and its plans to sustain a viable business in the region.

Shannon Aerospace is making no statement about how this re-organisation will affect staff numbers, but there are fears locally that the company is seeking redundancies.

In the Dáil, Clare TD Pat Breen asked if the Government got a warning that the jobs were to be lost.

He did not get a reply as he was ruled out of order by Ceann Comhairle Seamus Kirk.
