The number of days lost to industrial disputes in 2009 was 330,000 compared to just 4,000 in 2008.
The 2009 figure was the highest in 25 years and came about as a result of the one-day work stoppage by public sector workers last November.
The figures are contained in the Statistical Yearbook of Ireland 2010 that was published by the Central Statistics Office this morning.
According to the 350-page CSO Yearbook, which contains thousands of statistics, Ireland's population grew by 5.2% to 4.45m in 2009.
There were 74,000 births here and 29,000 deaths. One third of births in 2009 were outside marriage.
