Economic recovery will be encouraged by successfully promoting the country's strength in areas such as the arts and humanities, according to a report published today.

The study, conducted by the Higher Education Authority and the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences, calls for more cooperation at third level between arts and the sciences.

The report, called 'Playing to our Strengths', recommends the prioritisation of research in the creative and digital arts.

It says a programme of support for the area must be created as a matter of urgency.

It also recommends the development of a secondment policy to place private sector entrepreneurs in the public sector and vice versa.
