The Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council has confirmed that it has sent two officials to Delhi to inspect facilities, following concerns about the athletes' village.
27 workers were injured, five of them seriously, when a footbridge connecting a stadium to a car park in Delhi collapsed yesterday.
A spokesperson said the officials arrived in India this morning and have been liaising with delegates from other European countries, the Commonwealth Games Federation and local organisers.
They are expected to report back to the council today, but a spokesperson says a decision on whether or not the team will attend the Games will be made later this week.
He said the next 48 hours would be crucial, and he would not rule out the possibility that there was a danger the Games would not go ahead.
The Northern Ireland team is not due to leave for Delhi until Monday.
The council says it is continuing its preparations for the Games and is distributing kits to the athletes this afternoon.
