Protest in Navan over hospital cutbacks

Navan - Rally to protest decision

Around 250 people have attended a rally in Navan today to protest over the Health Service Executive's decision to cease surgeries in Our Lady's Hospital.

The crowd were told that the decision was made to save money and was not in the interests of patient safety although that is a claim disputed by the HSE.

All emergency and most elective surgery was halted in the hospital at the start of the month by the Executive who said the move was in the best interests of patients.

It has since emerged that the surgery performed on six patients is being reviewed by external experts.

However, staff unions say they are cautious about this being the main reason for the HSE decision.

They said they are still seeking full details behind the move to end surgery.
