A report suggests that Ireland is facing a skills shortage if the workforce is not trained in green technologies.

Comhar's report 'Skills and Training for a Green New Deal' suggests that Ireland needs thousands of workers trained.

It suggests that the training required from apprenticeship level through to PhD level if the green economy is to become a reality.

The organisation suggests that traditional apprenticeship programmes need to be modified so that tradespeople are skilled in green technologies.

Third level institutions also were advised in the report to adapt to produce graduates skilled in generation, transmission and network management.

The Irish Government intends to produce 40% of electricity by renewable means by 2020.
