Lough Ree - Dispute with workers over pay

A strike by Bord na Móna workers at the ESB's Lough Ree Power Station in Co Longford is set to continue after staff rejected a proposal to return to work.

The group of 40 workers have been on strike since last week.

The row centres on the payment of bonus payments during a period of time when the ESB power station was closed for repairs.

The workers issued a statement accusing Bord na Mána management of breaking long-standing agreements without consultation on negotiation.

The workers said they have made several attempts to resolve the situation and have other issues before the Labour Relations Commission.

However, they have accused management of Bord na Móna of refusing to attend.

Bord na Móna said it has not broken any agreement and is prepared to engage in the LRC process on 15 September.

A spokesperson for the company said that it is urging workers to go back to work immediately.
