Efforts will continue tomorrow to identify the victim of a fire in Dalkey, Co Dublin.

The body of a man was discovered after a blaze at a derelict house on Ulverton road was brought under control early on Wednesday morning.

The State Pathologist was due to carry out a preliminary examination at the scene before the man's remains are removed for a full post-mortem examination.

The fire broke out at around midnight at a disused property on Ulverton Road.

According to neighbours, the property was purchased by new owners around four years ago, but it had been vacant ever since and had fallen into a state of disrepair.

Gardaí believe the man had been staying at the house on and off over the last number of weeks.

He is thought to have been aged between 40 and 50.

It is not yet known how the fire started. Gardaí say they are keeping an open mind on the matter as they try to establish the cause of the blaze.
