Dún Laoghaire Rathdown - Plans to outsource bin collection

A proposed strike by bin collectors in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown has been called-off pending the outcome of talks between the council and SIPTU.

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council had planned to outsource bin collection in the area to private waste firm Panda from 26 July.

However, the council has agreed to defer the signing of contracts with Panda after initial talks at the Labour Relations Commission.

The strike had been due to begin on Thursday, but the union has postponed that action.

SIPTU thanked the LRC for its services in 'resolving the immediate issues'.

Earlier, the local authority had argued that it had no alternative but to outsource as it is currently incurring unsustainable losses for the service.
