Thousands of licensed firearm holders could face having their guns seized or even be liable to prosecution unless they apply for new guns licenses.
The deadline for license applications is the end of this month.
More than 25,000 gun owners have yet to make applications for the new three-year gun license, which was introduced late last year.
Gardaí are available in stations across the country today to advise gun owners on how to make their applications.
