19 people have been killed in northern Mexico after 30 gunmen stormed a drug rehabilitation centre and opened fire last night.
Four others were wounded in the incident, which took place in the northern city of Chihuahua around midnight local time last night.
The gunmen climbed to the second floor of the Templo Cristiano Fe y Vida and fired large-calibre weapons at patients and employees before fleeing.
Chihuahua is the scene of a struggle between rival cartels fighting for control of the drugs trade.
Authorities say rehab centres are often targeted by the cartels because they are used by individuals selling small quantities of drugs and as a refuge from violence.
Some 23,000 people have died in drug-related attacks since the launch of a military clampdown on organised crime, which began at the end of 2006 and involves around 50,000 troops.
