150 calls to miscarriage helplines yesterday

Hospitals - Women incorrectly told their babies had died
Hospitals - Women incorrectly told their babies had died

A helpline set up at Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda in the wake of misdiagnosed miscarriages received 63 callers yesterday.

The calls were received between 9am and 4pm and not all were from women who attended the hospital.

There were 87 callers to the Health Service Executive's National Information Line yesterday and some other maternity hospitals around the country said they received a small number of calls.

The HSE has reminded women who may be concerned about a diagnosis of miscarriage that they should first contact the maternity hospital at which they received treatment.

It said the woman's own hospital is best placed to access their file and to deal appropriately with their concerns as swiftly as possible.

Contact details for each of the hospitals are now available on the HSE website www.hse.ie and from the HSE information line on 1850-241850.
