The 17-year-old youth who was killed in this morning's crash outside Meath, has been named as Meath Minor Football Star Liam Tolan.

The crash happened just after midnight on a minor road at Ballyhack, Kilbrew, Ashbourne.

The teenager was a passenger in a car that crashed into a ditch.

He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady's Hospital Navan where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and a second passenger, both male and aged in their late teens, were not injured.

Elsewhere, a male pedestrian has died in hospital after he was struck by a car on the Stillorgan dual carriageway at around 3.40am this morning.

In Co Louth, one person has been seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash.

The crash happened overnight on the Old Slane Road at Townley Hall in Drogheda.
