Taoiseach Brian Cowen has said the Government's economic strategy has been vindicated in the latest economic indicators, which, he said, are consistent with the economy returning to some growth this year.
Mr Cowen said some commentators believe that the economy is already in a growth phase, with recent suggestions that manufacturing and services activity both increased in April.
He said yesterday's Exchequer returns showed that tax returns were on target for the period to end of April and will strengthen as the economy returns to growth later in the year.
