Mayor Emer Costello said the queue of people waiting to sign extended down Dawson Street for a good part of the day.

Several books have already been filled; but members of the public will still have an opportunity to pay tribute to the memory of the late broadcaster between 10am and 4pm tomorrow and Wednesday.

Over the weekend at least 4,000 people signed a book of condolence in the RTÉ Radio Centre in Donnybrook.

In a statement, RTÉ said it wished to acknowledge the scale and depth of the response by the public to the death of Gerry Ryan.

It said all correspondence, including the books of condolence, will be passed on to Gerry Ryan's family.

Broadcasters Pat Kenny and Ronan Collins paid tribute to their former colleague during their programmes on RTÉ Radio One today.

Presenter Ruth Scott will present a programme to replace the Gerry Ryan Show for the remainder of the week.

RTÉ 2FM will broadcast a three-hour programme tomorrow morning in further tribute to Mr Ryan.
