The mandate of the Irish Army peace-keeping mission in Chad has been extended by two months.

The mandate, which was due to expire next Monday 15 March, was extended by this morning's Cabinet meeting.

It is understood the extension was agreed to allow for clarification to be sought from the United Nations on the future of the mission.
