Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has warned that thousands of small businesses will go bust unless the Government intervenes with the banks to ensure credit is extended to the banks.
Deputy Kenny accused the Government of giving the people a 'litany of falsehoods' on the recovery of the banks, NAMA and the economy.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen said NAMA is essential to the recovery of the economy and said the Government is continuing to make the economy competitive.
Labour's Eamon Gilmore has accused Mr Cowen of leading an 'incompetent' and divided Government, which is tired and broken.
Deputy Gilmore said the Government was putting on 'veneer of unity' to keep two parties in office rather than getting the people who have lost employment back to work.
The Taoiseach said without the bank guarantee there would have been an economic 'meltdown'.
