Residents of a north Dublin senior citizens housing complex are being evacuated because of structural damage caused by pyrite.

27 residents of the scheme on Clancarty Road, Donnycarney, are to be rehoused by Dublin City Council in the Northern Fringe area.

A recent meeting of the council's North Central area committee heard that works to repair the scheme which was built by Shenick Construction could take six months.

The meeting also heard an update on the overall situation in regard to pyrite.

Menolly Home which is one of the developers involved is refusing to carry out remedial works at present and will only carry out works on a complete block of houses.

A council report stated that Menolly are awaiting the outcome of their Commercial Court proceedings against the Lagan Group who supplied the building material.

Around 400 North Dublin homeowners have taken actions against Menolly over structural defects caused by the presence of the mineral pyrite in building material.

The Commeriail Court proceedings started a year ago but are still on-going with the judge recently finding that both sides had failed to discover documents.
