Musgrave Cash & Carry is to cut 80 jobs at depots on both sides of the border.
The company confirmed today that a total of 55 jobs will go in the south - 15 in Cork, 14 in Killarney and the remaining 26 jobs at depots in Dublin, Waterford, Limerick, Galway and Donegal.
25 jobs will go at its Belfast operation.
In a statement issued to RTÉ, the company said it needed to restructure its cash-and-carry business to reflect the changes in the market, which have seen the hospitality sector fall by 15% to 20% and the retail market by 7% last year.
The employees were told at meetings held last week.
The 55 jobs in the south will go over the next six months, with the 25 Belfast jobs going within four months.
The cash-and-carry business is part of Musgrave Wholesale Partners, which employs 1,144 people across 13 depots on both sides of the border.
