Heavy snowstorms have caused havoc on the east coast of the US, paralysing air and road transport.
More than 350,000 people have been left without electricity.
States of emergency have been declared in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
It is thought to be one of the heaviest snowfalls in the region in almost 90 years.
With winds gusting at almost 90km an hour, meteorologists said they had recorded a record snowfall as high as 96cm in Baltimore, Maryland.
Police in Maryland have responded to around 3,167 calls for help, more than two-thirds of which were due to car accidents or stranded vehicles.
Yesterday, a total of 82cm was recorded at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington DC - another record, according to the US National Weather Service.
The two-day accumulation beat the previous record, compiled during the blizzard of January 1996, the service said.
